Tracey Maconachie - President

Tracey’s role as President is to provide leadership and support the life science industry in Manitoba in order to improve the quality of life for all Manitobans and Canadians.

In this role, Tracey is re-establishing the Association as the voice of the life science community. She continues to work to anticipate and meet the needs of LSAM’s members in an evolving industry. Her strategic intent is to facilitate an improving business environment for life science organizations that will allow them to flourish. In all that she does, she has four cornerstone objectives in mind: connecting of people, information and ideas; building human resource capacity; facilitating a strong business development climate for members; and advocating for Manitoba’s life science industry.

Tracey believes that with an expanding and aging population and growing concerns over the health of the environment, the role that life sciences can play in feeding, healing and fueling the planet in a sustainable and responsible way holds great potential for Manitoba and the world.

Tracey holds a Bachelor's Degree in Science from the University of Manitoba. For the last twenty years she worked for Merck Canada and was heavily involved in organizations that promote innovation. During this time she focused on forming relationships with partners to ensure their shared goals were achieved.

Stephen Szczerba - Manager, Health Industries

Stephen aims to develop relationships with organizations in the areas of medical devices, therapeutics, biologicals, diagnostics, and informatics in order to address concerns and unmet needs surrounding industry development.

He will promote the health sector in Manitoba by drawing on his experience in industry, government and academia to help grow established life science companies and address the unique challenges faced by small to medium enterprises.

Stephen completed his Master’s Thesis at the University of Manitoba in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease.

His work experience includes exploratory and applied research at the National Research Council – Institute for Biodiagnostics, and new product development with Koven Technology Canada, Inc.

Kristina Braun – Manager, Agriculture and Industrial Bioproducts

Kristina’s role centres on the Agriculture and Industrial Bioproduct segment. Her mission is to aid in creating connections between industry stakeholders, to assist with and coordinate activities within the industry and to work with members to address business related needs.

Kristina is passionate about the work that the life science industry undertakes. She believes that the opportunities for agriculture and industrial bioproducts are rapidly growing and will aid Manitoba in its goals to create a sustainable and successful life science industry. Kristina looks forward to working with members of the life science community to develop and strengthen this industry in Manitoba.

She is a graduate of the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and a Masters Degree in Animal Science. Prior to joining LSAM, Kristina spent 10 years working in the areas of animal health, nutrition and genetics. She most recently worked for Maxxam Analytics as a senior analyst in animal genetics. Her volunteer work has included NEEDS Inc, which aims to support immigrant and refugee children integrate into Canadian society.

Judi Bahl - Manager,Training

As the Manager, Training for LSAM, Judi develops relationships with our many members and determines their needs in order to bring them highly valuable and high quality training opportunities.

She holds a Bachelor in Psychology and a Bachelor in Education from the University of Manitoba. After teaching in the Winnipeg school system, she transferred her skills and knowledge to the business world, first starting out as a customer service manager before transitioning into training. Judi has several years experience in facilitating training, developing programs, and supervising a team of facilitators. She has worked in a variety of industries, including telecommunications, outsourcing, sales and insurance. Judi is currently pursuing her HR Management Certificate.

Andrea Perrin-Training and Office Coordinator

As the Training Coordinator, Andrea focuses on managing the logistics for all the training events. She liases with the Manager, Training and program facilitators to ensure that the events are run efficiently and all needs are met. Andrea ensures the success of all the training programs.

Prior to joing LSAM, Andrea worked for Cangene Corporation in their Plasma Centre before moving over to the corporate office to work in inside sales. She has many diverse skills that she has brought to this postion, including a good knowledge base of the life sciences.
