Into the depths of sleep – Cerebra announces open access to proprietary ORP sleep depth technology

September 19, 2023: Winnipeg, MB  Poor quality sleep doesn’t just make us feel tired, slow, and grumpy, it may also lead to major physical and mental health problems. Understanding sleep quality’s impact on human health requires new insights into sleep depth and disruption that go beyond what conventional sleep staging provides.

Cerebra’s patented ORP technology is proving to be a key tool in bringing a better understanding of sleep into clinical practice. Highly validated, ORP microanalyses EEG signals to provide greater insight into brain activity during sleep. Over two dozen peer reviewed scientific articles have been published on ORP and some of the most important findings have linked it to understanding the impact of sleep quality on adherence to CPAP therapy1, insomnia and obstructive sleep apnea phenotyping2 and an individual risk of motor vehicle accidents3.

Cerebra is excited to make ORP available to qualified researchers for free through its proprietary MY Sleep Scoring application programming interface (API). The MY Sleep Scoring API enables seamless and automated processing of polysomnography data, removing barriers to the use of ORP in clinical research. Cerebra is looking to work with qualified researchers to accelerate the clinical application of the technology in identifying and treating the underlying causes of disrupted sleep.

“My Sleep Scoring API gives researchers the ability to directly access Cerebra’s ORP metrics portfolio with greater customization and data transparency” says Dr. Veronica Guadagni, Director, Sleep Science for Cerebra. “Our scientific founder, Dr. Magdy Younes, in a recently published state of the art review on ORP4 , has identified a number of areas to further validate the use of ORP in clinical practice and we’re excited to open this opportunity up to the global research community.”

The first research collaboration utilizing the API tool has commenced with the team led by Dr. David Rapoport and Dr. Ankit Parekh at the Icahn School of Medicine, Mount Sinai Hospital. The MY Sleep Scoring API will be used to easily and efficiently process a large number of sleep studies. The ORP data will be analyzed to gain deeper insight into sleep and sleep disorders with the goal to further establish it as a clinically relevant metric.

About Cerebra
Cerebra is a Canadian technology company transforming the future of sleep diagnosis and therapy through its patented algorithm, Odds Ratio Product (ORP). ORP micro-analyses the Electroencephalogram (EEG) signal providing a continuous measure of sleep depth, moving beyond conventional scoring methods to dig deeper into brain activity. Cerebra unites innovators and researchers with the common goal and passion of putting “sleep” back into sleep medicine.
