Manitoba Technology Accelerator Announcing Ambitious Expansion Plans

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA – December 22, 2015  Today, the Manitoba Technology Accelerator (www.mbtechacclerator.com) is announcing ambitious expansion plans to relocate to 136 Market Avenue and work to create central Canada’s most powerful technology start-up district. Effective Dec 23rd, MTA and MTA’s clients will relocate and assume ~45,000 square feet of space in the Start-Up Central District.

Marshall Ring, CEO of MTA communicated that “MTA clients have been on an incredible growth trajectory for the past 18 months. About every 6 months we were doubling in size. The move into 136 Market and the formation of the Start-Up Central District will provide us the physical space needed to continue our growth plans. While 45,000 square feet is our starting point, we envision the entire +100,000 square feet will be soon filled with start-up and high growth technology companies”.

Ultimately the Start-Up Central District envisions attracting investors, technology companies and service companies from within and outside of Manitoba to co-locate in the area.

A key MTA client moving to the Start-Up Central building is SkipTheDishes, (www.skipthedishes.com) one of Canada’s fastest growing technology companies. Recently Premier Selinger was on hand to welcome SkipTheDishes to their new global head office. (http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/business/rapid-growth-for-skip-the-dishes-362756271.html).

The timing of the move also coincides with Cubresa’s graduation from the business incubator program. (http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/business/positive-outlook-363220501.html) Cubresa was a cornerstone client of MTA for several years. Having a Winnipeg-based start-up secure $3.5M in financing to move through the commercial stage should provide great encouragement of what’s possible in Winnipeg for world class firms, and help provide momentum for Start-Up Central.

Harry Ethans, deal validator for the Manitoba Knights, the Angel group recently formed to invest in qualified opportunities vetted through the MTA investment process thinks the time is right for growth. “This year alone, MTA client companies such as Skip and Cubresa will collectively secure over $10M in private financing and build over 100 new technology jobs for our community. We are proving what is possible here, and MTA and the Manitoba Knights deserve much credit, but I also think there is more opportunity. I want the concept of Start-Up Central to attract additional technology, talent and investment from within and outside of Manitoba”.
