Winnipeg start-ups score sought-after financing at innovation fund awards

Winnipeg start-ups are on fire.

Young Winnipeg entrepreneurs from Permission Click and Exigence Technologies have been named two of the nine recipients of this year’s national Spin Master Innovation Fund awards.

The award comes with a start-up package of up to $50,000 in financing from Futurpreneur Canada (formerly Canadian Youth Business Foundation) and BDC and a hand-matched mentor.

The news comes one day after it was announced that Winnipeg start-ups got two of 15 spots — Advolve Media and Permission Click again — at the National Angel Summit event this week in Quebec City.

Zach Wolff and his partners Sheri Governo and Natalio Javier at Exigence Technologies Inc. are developing the most advanced antimicrobial compound that can be applied to textiles and used in laundering garments in the health-care and hospitality industries to reduce the spread of infection.

Chris Johnson and his partners Scott MacAulay and Kevin Buckner at Permission Click are developing an application that creates digital permission slips and facilitates payment collection for kindergarten to Grade 12 schools, allowing parents to approve attendance and pay for events in seconds on any device
