MTA provides commercialization support to help promising technology start-ups go from “good idea” to “investable business"

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA – June 20 , 2014 –Today, the Manitoba Technology Accelerator (MTA) is joining in a national announcement out of Waterloo, Ontario to announce that MTA has progressed to the final stages of due diligence for the Canada Accelerator and Incubator Program (CAIP), delivered by the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program. Through a competitive request for proposals process, CAIP is investing in select high performing and high potential incubators and accelerators in Canada as part of the Government of Canada’s Access to Venture Capital Action Plan. The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister Responsible for Manitoba remarked "I am very pleased that MTA has been selected to move forward in the selection process under CAIP. This would be a great step in helping small and medium-sized businesses in Manitoba get their ideas to the marketplace. As a Government, we are proud to support private sector-led initiatives that further strengthen our venture capital market."

MTA has forecast that CAIP funding will enable MTA to provide more services to additional technology start-ups which will result in $3M of new equity investment over the course of the program and enable MTA to continue the impressive performance in creating high value, technology focussed private sector jobs.

“We are really pleased to have progressed to this stage of the process” commented Marshall Ring CEO of MTA. “The integration into an emerging national network of high performing incubators and accelerators can only provide more opportunities for our client companies”. Bill Watchorn, a long-serving Board member of MTA commented that “it is wonderful to see the MTA model gaining national attention. We really believe in the commercialization approach we use to move start-ups from interesting idea to investable business opportunity. Our performance over the last several years reaffirms our support for this model”.

MTA will immediately begin a search for additional executive management supports and will double their current operating space.
