This month, the Life Science Association of Manitoba (LSAM) is bringing together outstanding leaders in Manitoba’s life science sector for the annual Maximizing Our Potential Awards Gala at the Metropolitan Entertainment Centre.

“We are so pleased to celebrate the immense success of deserving leaders in our province’s life science sector,” said Tracey Maconachie, LSAM President. “Our field is thriving now, more so than ever, and we are proud to see our homegrown companies innovate in exciting new ways. Our organization’s goal is to support local initiatives, and the purpose of this evening is to mark their success at both a regional and national scale.”

The celebratory evening commemorates the finest Manitoban companies and students who have pursued and produced outstanding research and development in the field of life science. This diverse sector includes businesses innovating in the following categories: health, industrial bioproducts, and agriculture and food.

Awards will be granted in the following categories:

Life Science Company of the Year - The Winning Combination Inc. (www.winning-combination.com)
Life Science Early Stage Company of the Year - Kane Biotech Inc. (www.kanebiotech.com)
Outstanding Leadership in Life Science - Composites Innovation Centre (www.compositesinnovation.ca)

“It’s an honour to be considered one of Manitoba’s major success stories,” said Gord Froehlich, President and CEO of Kane Biotech. “We’re still comparatively young, but have already experienced major support and success – especially in the animal health sector with our StrixNB oral care product line. It’s incredible how wide-reaching the life science industry is in our province, and it’s exciting to realize our homegrown products have the potential to be embraced at a national scale and beyond.”

The LSAM Maximizing Our Potential Awards Gala will take place on February 26, 2014 at the Metropolitan Entertainment Centre. The program will include guest speaker André Lewis, Artistic Director at Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet (RWB), and a performance by the RWB.
