LSAM represents all those involved in the Life Science Sector in Manitoba. The Life Science Sector focuses on the use of innovative biological tools and products, the creation of wealth and sustainability in the production of medical treatments, diagnostics, more-nutritional foods, energy, chemicals, and materials, while improving the quality of the environment.

The Life Science sector is a key to economic growth within the Province of Manitoba and is currently estimated to contribute more than 7% of the provinces GDP. In addition to generating value on its own, the Life Science sector is helping to grow and sustain competitiveness in ailing and traditional sectors of the economy, through the application of new and innovative products and processes.

The Life Science Association of Manitoba builds and supports Manitoba’s Life Sciences industries through:
    • Sector Promotion
    • Training
    • Advocacy

    Sector Promotion
LSAM is working with local companies to identify and create synergies and to assist companies as they promote themselves to customers, investors and each other. This occurs on multiple levels including local, regional, national and international. Our focus is the midcontinent trade corridor and aligning with provincial initiatives to generate new markets for Manitoba companies. Also as part of the sector promotion activities, we are creating awareness of the Manitoba strengths for companies who are contemplating relocation or expansion in the North American market.

    Training
LSAM started as a training association and this remains an area where we are very active. Through an industry led steering committee, LSAM offers a variety of courses and training resources so that companies can effectively train their employees to meet their current needs. LSAM has offered 1141 courses and trained more than 11,700 individuals since our start in 1994

    Advocacy
LSAM is working to ensure that the environment for growing Life Sciences companies exists in Manitoba. Part of this is ensuring there is funding for the entire commercialization chain, from research through market expansion. We are also actively engaged with provincial and federal departments to ensure that issues such as taxes, venture capital, infrastructure, immigration and education are thoughtfully considered to ensure that current companies can grow and that new companies can be successful.
